Weight Management
Have you found yourself struggling to achieve your healthy weight target and overwhelmed by all the confusing information circulating around us? It can be a challenging journey, but also a rewarding one made easier with the right supports in place.
We believe every person requires a different nutrition plan, with different strategies and goals based on their unique circumstances. We will help create a plan tailored to you and your preferences that may change with age, gender, activity levels, health conditions, and numerous other lifestyle factors. Ultimately, we will work closely alongside you to provide you with all the tools to get you feeling good within yourself again.
We specialise in the below weight management plans:
Weight Loss – across all ages, gender and backgrounds
Post Bariatric Surgery (e.g. gastric sleeve, endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty, gastric balloon)
Weight stabilisation / gain
General healthy eating guidance
Food Allergies/Intolerances
Have you been diagnosed with a food allergy or suspect you may have food intolerances?
Allergy testing is quite confusing, and many unorthodox methods are not diagnostic leading to further frustration and distress. We will talk through and clarify your options to gain an accurate diagnosis or management plan for all your food allergy and nutrition needs.
Alternatively, you may be suffering with food intolerances, which can be harder to identify without the right approach. You may be one of these people if you suffer from frequent:
bloating, stomach pain, diarrhoea, constipation, nausea, reflux, blocked sinus, headaches, migraines, itchy skin, hives, or fatigue.
The above symptoms may be due to irritable bowel syndrome, FODMAP malabsorption, fibre imbalances or sensitivity to food chemicals. This is one of our most passionate areas of nutrition. With advanced knowledge and experience, we can help analyse and advise you on the best elimination plan followed by a systematic challenge protocol to help you gain control of these uncomfortable symptoms. This is a complex area of nutrition and we will ensure to support you every step of the way to help you throughout this journey with regular follow-ups and guidance.
Lorinda has undertaken further training and experienced in the below conditions:
Food Allergies
FODMAP Intolerance
Lactose Intolerance
Food Chemical Intolerance (RPAH / Failsafe Diets)
Wheat/Gluten Sensitivity
Gastrointestinal Conditions
Are you struggling to manage the symptoms associated with your gut condition or been recently diagnosed with any of the following?
Coeliac Disease
Diverticular Disease
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
GORD
Eosinophilic Oesophagitis
Bloating / Constipation / Diarrhoea
Managing your gastrointestinal condition can be stressful and complicated throughout disease progression. What may have been tolerated in the past could now be flaring your gut as tolerance levels are forever fluctuating due to numerous variables. This could be related to stress, age, exercise regimen, disease progression, medication changes, newly developed intolerances, altered dietary habits, or co-morbidities. We will help identify your triggers to relieve your uncomfortable symptoms with a practical and sustainable plan moving forward. It’s also important to factor in good nutrition to optimise total health and wellbeing which can often be neglected during such times. We will ensure you are meeting all your dietary requirements if placed on a restricted plan and will offer ongoing support throughout your journey.
Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating
Do you feel you have a poor relationship with food and your body?
Eating disorders are complex and often a stressful time for the sufferer and their family members. We take the time to consider both the physical and psychological impact eating issues can have on a person. Having a Dietitian on your team is pivotal in the recovery journey which can often be a long battle.
We have extensive experience in managing many forms of eating disorders including:
Anorexia Nervosa
Bulimia Nervosa
Binge-Eating Disorder
Orthorexia
ARFID (avoidance and restrictive food intake disorder)
Other specified eating and feeding disorder (OSFED)
Our aim is to help you break free from the controls of an eating disorder through developing a healthier relationship with food, mind and body to regain your freedom. We will collaborate with your health care team to provide a holistic approach to treatment and ensure recovery is possible for you.
Each client will need a different approach and treatment model based on their type of eating disorder and personal circumstances. We often implement the RAVES model and a non-diet approach, which is a step by step process taken at the client’s pace to adopt a flexible eating practice right for the individual.
Emma is a credentialed eating disorder clinician demonstrating high level of knowledge and skills in this space.
Bariatric Surgery
Are you struggling with weight management and considering bariatric surgery?
We understands obesity is an incredibly difficult condition to manage as dieting and lifestyle interventions are challenging to maintain long term. The Australian Medical Association considers bariatric surgery an important intervention for long-term weight reduction and a valuable mechanism to improve your overall health and wellbeing.
Bariatric surgery is further recognised as an effective treatment for many chronic diseases and has produced positive outcomes in the management of diabetes, hypertension, metabolic-associated fatty liver disease, sleep apnoea, and osteoarthritis.
Despite these positive outcomes, it can be incredibly daunting to embark on bariatric (weight loss) surgery that involves an adjustment to your nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset. A lot of emotions can arise, and we will work closely with you to support you with her warm compassionate nature throughout this journey. We will personally guide and tailor each phase involving:
Preoperative nutrition optimisation
Postoperative plan for each dietary phase including fluids, puree, soft, and full diet
Mindful eating strategies
Support with emotional eating
Problem-solving to overcome weight loss plateaus
Regular body composition analysis to monitor the quality of your weight loss
Personal nutrition and protein targets
A personal supplement regimen
Lorinda has years of experience in weight loss surgery and works alongside some of the best bariatric surgeons in the county including Dr Esh Jeyarajan.
Fertility
Are you having difficulty in falling pregnant or been diagnosed with infertility?
The good news is many couples who experience infertility will go on to successfully conceive. It can often just require additional support with lifestyle adjustments and sometimes medical interventions to help you become pregnant.
Lorinda is a certified fertility dietitian who loves providing couples like you with nutritional and emotional support throughout this journey. She will complete a full nutrition assessment and create a carefully tailored nutrition and supplement plan that is designed to:
Improve the quality of your eggs
Help regulate your ovulation cycle
Optimise your chances of conceiving naturally
Reduce the risk of miscarriage and bringing your baby to full term
Minimise the time it takes to successfully conceive
Improve the success of assisted reproductive therapies
Create an environment to support your baby’s development and positively shape their future health
Lorinda understands the emotional impact infertility can have on your personal health and your relationship. Therefore, during your sessions she goes beyond providing just nutrition advice and will offer guidance, problem-solving, and compassion with the wealth of experience she brings.
Lorinda completed her advanced training with Early Life Nutrition Alliance and works alongside expert fertility and IVF specialists.
Neurodivergence and Nutrition
Neurodiverse people can often experience eating difficulties and are at a greater risk of developing eating disorders.
Emma has a strong interest in supporting neurodivergent people navigate eating concerns and work towards nourishing your body. Some eating issues experienced by neurodivergent people include:
Sensory sensitivities to food including smell, taste, and texture
Loss of appetite due to medications
Difficulty with planning and preparing nourishing meals with a reliance on convenience foods
Gastrointestinal complaints
Difficulty with internal body cues such as hunger and satiety
Emma offers neuro-affirming care and adapts traditional nutrition interventions to suit the individual.
Non-Diet Approach
Are you interested in improving your health and nutrition without a focus on weight loss?
Emma uses a non-diet approach whereby the focus is on changing health behaviours and improving nutritional markers without weight loss and calorie restriction being a goal. She can help guide you towards a way of eating that is more natural for each individual, in line with your body’s cues and learning to accept and embrace your natural body weight and size.
This approach can be particularly helpful for the following people:
Have a history of yo-yo dieting
Disordered eating or history of an eating disorder
Body image concerns
By offering this approach, we want to help reduce the stigma that exists for people in larger bodies and help you find nourishment, joy, and satisfaction with food rather than guilt, shame, and obsession.
